4:30 PM - 10:30 PM
America/New_York
Off-campus

Join ISSO and new friends from Columbia’s international community for an evening enjoying world-class music in NYC's famous Central Park!

This free public concert takes place on the Great Lawn. Elim Chan conducts a festive program with Principal Cello Carter Brey performing Saint-Saëns’s exciting Cello Concerto No. 1, plus music by Copland, Ravel, and much more! This joyous evening of lively music concludes with a breathtaking display of post-concert fireworks.

Itinerary:

  • 4:30pm                 Meet outside ISSO Morningside at Armstrong Hall to travel together (*optional)
  • 5:00pm                 Arrive at the Great Lawn and set up picnic blankets
    • We encourage you to bring snacks from home (or to purchase snacks from nearby Trader Joe's), to enjoy while we wait. It is strongly recommended that everyone bring water, as the event is outside and the weather may be hot. Please stay hydrated!
  • 8:00pm                 Concert begins
  • 10:00pm               Fireworks show

*ISSO will make every effort to use MTA public transportation, but some walking may be required. While strollers are welcome, please be aware that crowds at the concert may make navigation difficult.

If you plan to join ISSO for this excursion, PLEASE JOIN THIS WHATSAPP GROUP to help coordinate meeting up before, during, and after the event. Participants are welcome to join late or leave early as their schedules allow. Please use the group to connect throughout the evening! We recommend arriving early, as this free public event is very popular and seating may become limited later in the evening.

Please make sure to review the Concerts in the Parks FAQ in advance, as certain items are prohibited. The bags policy states: "You may bring small, clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bags (12"x12"x6" max size), non-clear clutch/purse/fanny pack no larger than 4.5" x 6.5". Sorry, no other bags are allowed."
