Beyond the CV: ISSO Faculty & Researcher "Show & Tell" Party

November 18, 2026
6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
America/New_York
TBD

Are you an international CU faculty member, researcher, postdoc, staff or trainee? Are you looking to meet peers and make new friends across different schools and departments? Join ISSO's monthly evening social event to help build connections and community!

In celebration of International Education Week, ISSO invites faculty, researchers, postdocs, and staff to share and celebrate the work they do across the university through a fun, informal "show & tell" among friends.

This isn't an academic seminar, conference, or formal research presentation. Instead, assume your audience knows nothing about your field or your day-to-day activities. Bring in and share something that tells us about your work and makes us curious -- 5 minutes MAXIMUM! For example, you could bring:

  • A tool or object you use regularly
  • An image, chart, or other example from your work
  • An article, book, or resource that has influenced you
  • A lesson plan or activity that worked particularly well
  • A photo of your office or of your field work
  • A question, idea, or problem you're thinking about
  • A story about something you've accomplished, or failed and learned from
  • Something else that gives us a sense of what you do

No polished presentation required. A slide, photo, object, story, or idea is all you need. The goal is simply to share something that is exciting or interesting to YOU -- we want to know about the person behind the work! We'll learn about the passions, curiosities, and everyday worlds of several colleagues across different fields, then spend time in small groups discovering unexpected connections and learning from one another.

Come celebrate the diverse contributions of our ISSO community and leave with new connections and perspectives!

**Want to help us get the conversations started? ISSO is looking for a few volunteers who would like to introduce their objects to everyone and inspire ideas. This is completely OPTIONAL —most participants will share their object, idea, or story within a small group only.

This program is part of a series intended to promote organic community building amongst international scholars at all campuses of Columbia University. Registration through ISSO is not open to guests. We thank you for your understanding.
