Hello, I'm George from Georgia. I'm an Applied Analytics student here at School of Professional Studies at Columbia University and welcome to #ISSOstories!

As I said I'm an Applied Analytics student, so I love the data, but I also love people. So past ten years almost, I was, doing people data analytics. So it's about people and data, yeah. All my professional life.
Here I'm also at the moment communicating with Human Capital Management Professors to think about some cool ideas within the field of people data analytics. But apart from that, I'm also part of the student government, a representative there. And we are also trying to, you know, communicate with people. And we are even thinking, you know, to have certain surveys distributed within the students and then analyze those surveys, with the modern AI and data analytics tools, so we can really understand what our students are thinking, what they like so much, and what they do not like. In general, I don't remember names and surnames, but I remember numbers very well, so!

I really love sports, so I'm following sports. These days I'm following a lot, formula one, basketball, football, what you call soccer here in America, and boxing and UFC. And we have some Georgian champions here in UFC, so I love that fact. I just love enjoying NBA. I don't have a favorite team. I mean, at some point when Zaza Pachulia was playing in Golden State Warriors. I was supporting them a lot. And I think Steph Curry is one of the best ever. Apart from that, I really love, you know, enjoying the meeting with the new people. So, let's say connecting to people. And sometimes it might be in the restaurants, in the bars. You know, I really love tasting new foods like international food. On my free time, if I'm on campus, I have my favorite spot, like, in front of the Low Library on the stairs, behind the Alma Mater statue. My new hobby became, so, sitting there looking at the Butler library, enjoying the campus. So this is a plus one hobby.

The very, very first feeling when I- when I landed here in August, and this was my first time, I've never been here, was the feeling of like freedom. We- we- we always had a dream in our childhood about the land of freedom, yeah? Well I mean, it's everything for everyone. Like if you are a human being, then there is something for you in this- in this city.

Tell us about your past research or current projects at Columbia.

I love data, but I also love people. So for nearly ten years, I’ve been doing people data analytics. It's about people and data. At the moment, I am also communicating with Human Capital Management Professors to think about some new ideas within the field of people data analytics. But apart from that, I'm also a representative in the student government. There, we are also trying to communicate with people. Then, we can really understand what our students are thinking, what they like, and what they do not like. In general, I don't remember names and surnames, but I remember numbers very well!

What do you like to do outside of Columbia? Any hobbies? Interests?

I really love sports. These days, I am following Formula 1, basketball, football (what you call soccer here in America), boxing, and UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). In fact, we have some Georgian champions in UFC, so I love that. I enjoy the NBA too. I don't have a favorite team. I mean, at some point when Zaza Pachulia was playing on the Golden State Warriors, I was supporting them. I think Steph Curry is one of the best ever.  If you are a human being, then there is something for you in this city.

What has been your experience moving to NYC?

The very first feeling when I landed here in August was the feeling of freedom (and this was my first time, I've never been here). We always had a dream in our childhood about the land of freedom. NYC is everything for everyone. If you are a human being, then there is something for you in this city.
