Clayton VerBerkmoes

Clayton is an International Student Adviser for ISSO Morningside. In his role, he provides documentation and advising services to Columbia’s robust F and J-1 student community, tending to their immigration-related needs through assistance and information. His expertise covers a host of issues such as visas, enrollment, employment and travel. He has been with the ISSO since 2022. 

Prior to joining Columbia, Clayton worked for Brown University’s School of Professional Studies, where he provided ad-hoc international advising and processed large batches of Certificates of Eligibility on behalf of the university’s Office of International Student and Scholar Services. Prior to that, he worked for Shorelight, where he evaluated international credentials, matched international students to partner universities, and helped them obtain their Certificates of Eligibility. Clayton holds a Bachelors in Spanish Studies.

Clayton personally identifies as a “global citizen” and relates to those who travel for education and employment purposes. He is fluent in English, Spanish and German and has lived in Spain, Germany and Costa Rica. In fact, he holds dual citizenship in Costa Rica and the U.S.
