Presidential Proclamation Restricts Travel from Southern Africa to the U.S.

To prevent the spread of the Omicron COVID-19 variant, President issued a presidential proclamation on November 26, 2021 imposing a COVID-19 public health travel ban which prohibits the entry of foreign nationals who have been physically present in the following eight Southern African countries within 14 days preceding anticipated travel to the United States: Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents are not subject to the proclamation, which lists other exceptions as well. At this time, no exceptions for students and scholars are listed.
