Presidential Proclamation, April 22, 2020

April 24, 2020

On April 22, 2020, a Presidential Proclamation was issued to suspend the entry into the United States of foreign nationals as immigrants who do not have a valid immigrant visa (green card) for 60 days, effective April 23, 2020.

There are a number of exclusions that narrow the scope of the Proclamation, including that the suspension of entry does not apply to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals seeking entry on immigrant visas, who are performing research or work to combat COVID-19.

The suspension of entry also does not apply to workers on nonimmigrant visas (such as H-1B, TN, or E-3 categories) or students and scholars with F and J nonimmigrant visa status.  Please refer to this summary of the Proclamation for other exceptions and additional information.

The Proclamation calls for a review of nonimmigrant programs within 30 days. The ISSO will continue to monitor for any official updates and share with the Columbia community.
