Taxes: COVID-19 CARES Act Stimulus Payments
“Nonresident alien” tax filers are not eligible for the up to $1200 payment. Individuals who filed a resident tax return in 2018 or 2019 are eligible if they qualify as a resident alien in 2020. Some international students and scholars, however, may have erroneously filed a resident tax return, through TurboTax or similar software for residents, because they had not lived in the U.S. long enough to pass the Substantial Presence Test. Virtual Support Groups

  • CPS (Counseling and Psychological Services) on the Morningside Campus is offering virtual support spaces on a variety of topics to help address concerns around COVID-19, including one specifically for international students, Thursdays at 11 AM. Learn more.
  • MHS (Mental Health Services) on the CU medical center campus is offering virtual groups and virtual spaces, including one for international students. Learn more.

Columbia COVID-19 Student Services Corps (CSSC)
This new student volunteer organization has more than 1500 volunteers, spanning over 10 schools and 20 projects. Their work has inspired CSSC chapters at schools across the country.
