OPT (Optional Practical Training) is a benefit of F-1 student status that allows you to work off-campus in your field of study to gain practical experience. It requires an application to, and authorization from USCIS, which can take 3 months. ISSO staff will discuss eligibility requirements, time limitations and application deadlines and procedures for pre-completion OPT during your academic program including the summer of multi‐year programs.
