Awakening Our Democracy: Voters, Access and the 2020 Election

The upcoming election will be among the most pivotal in our nation’s history. Rarely have we faced so many critical issues at one time. However, in the United States many eligible voters choose not to participate, others face significant barriers to voting and countless Americans now question the validity of the voting process. Join University Life for an important conversation about political participation, access and the power of the vote in this extraordinary election year. The panelists are: -- Robert Shapiro, Wallace S. Sayre Professor of Government and Professor of International and Public Affairs, Department of Political Science -- Rina Shah, political commentator and founder, Rilax Strategies -- Tricia Shimamura, Director of Government Relations, Columbia University Office of Government and Community Affairs -- Midwin Charles, founder of the law firm Midwin Charles & Associates and commentator on politics, law and pop culture Jami Floyd, senior editor for Race and Justice at New York Public Radio, will moderate the discussion. CUID holders may register and will receive a confirmation email prior to the event with information for how to join on Zoom; all others may watch the livestream at universitylife.columbia.edu.
